To adequately support the global user community it is imperative for FX systems to deliver optimal, predictable, and reliable performance. The principal objective of this project is to increase performance of our clients FX application suite. The project team formulated recommendations on the optimal deployment architecture. The bottom line is to ensure the FX systems are able to consistently meet the demands of the business with headroom to spare.
This engagement delivered by Enterprise Engineering, Inc. included a Performance Review of the FX database engines, applications, and overall computing environment and a capacity plan to be implemented in support of increasing trade volume. A second phase of the project included implementation of the recommendations originating from this engagement.
EEI worked closely with the appropriate client resources to analyze and formulate solutions for the current performance bottlenecks. Analysis started with the logical and physical data models and the actual deployment of the data and applications. During this time we worked to identify the worst performing SQL queries in the system. Whenever possible, these queries wereoptimized with minimal impact to the overall FX system.
In parallel we worked with the client team to pull together documentation about user access requirements, work load, and data update and processing details. Application code was reviewed for possible performance issues and optimization solutions. EEI approached this project from a global point of view with the majority of analysis concentrated on the database and application code (reporting, batch, and end-user).
Based on the findings and recommendations from this engagement, EEI and our client created a project plan and timeline for implementation. Implementation included changes to the physical database, access methods, possible hardware modifications or upgrades, changes to application code, environment modifications, etc.
