With the increasing popularity of mobile communication devices such as internet enabled cell phones, PalmOne Treo and the RIM BlackBerry; individuals are becoming dependant on getting information and responding immediately. Financial Institutions are receiving requests from employees and customers to enable the distribution of information to mobile devices. EEI has developed the Remote Client Connectivity services to meet this growing need.
EEI can enable a financial institution to communicate and transact with clients through devices such as the RIM BlackBerry. This custom application development service can be delivered with EnterpriseFTX™ enabled applications and with new or existing applications.
Remote Client Connectivity applications are used to deliver java based functionality to mobile devices. The primary advantage is the mobilization of enterprise applications. Existing applications are extended and new applications created that take advantage of remote client enabled devices. The short case study below is illustrative of extending an enterprise application to support a remote user.
A cash management application entitles the payable clerk to input payment details for any payment and approval and release of transactions up to $5,000. Payments in excess of $5,000 require the CFO, who is regularly out of the office and entitled to approve and release all transactions. The current approval workflow must wait for action by the CFO to log onto an intranet application and approve and release funds, this could take a prolonged amount of time. Using the EEI’s Remote Client Connectivity services the workflow has been extended to issue an additional alert and extend the approval function to the to the CFO’s BlackBerry. An approval and release screen are opened on the Blackberry and the payment is securely released. When the payment is released with a confirmation is posted to the BlackBerry.
